A tall man with silver hair stood atop a giant stone head, the likeness of the Yondaime carved into a cliff face. Fierce winds blew his hair around behind him, the very air in this land was permeated with the blood of many thousands.
The man's name was Kagirinai Zaiaku. 26 years old, and deeply horrifyed at the sight before him. Though it didn't show behind the high collar of his Akatsuki cloak or in his empty yellow eyes which were colder than ice. The straw hat that once covered his head and face was already in the air far behind him, having gotten caught in one of the strong gusts.
Staring at the ground below him, he didn't move. Didn't blink. On the ground were old bloodstained streets pockmarked in craters and covered in cracks, glittering crystal spires that reached as high as 60 feet, even long stretches of black and red glass. What held his attention....were the ruined buldings, old rotting corpses, and the kneeling body of one Uchiha Itachi.
He launched himself off of the precipice, and landed next to Itachi in a crouch. He didn't at all seem bothered by the 500 foot drop, or even that the force of his jump caused the stone face to shudder and spread the spiderweb cracks that criss-crossed it's surface.
The shinobi countries were falling, one by one. The cause was unknown. And so far, Zaiaku had already been to Kiri, Suna, and Tsuchi. None had been as bad as Konoha but....there hadn't been even a single survivor. The whole thing....... was a nightmare. And it didn't appear to want to end anytime soon.
Turning to look at Itachi, Zaiaku asks: "Itachi-san. What's wrong? What happened here?" No response. Zaiaku responds by punching Itachi in the face, causing him to fly backwards onto one of the patches of glass. Walking over to the prone body, Zaiaku repeats his previous question.
His response this time is Itachi picking himself up off the ground, staring at him with his Sharingan eyes. Zaiaku's intense yellow eyes stare right back, and he turns away and walks into the Ruined city.
They pass the twisted and destroyed remains of stores, restaraunts, homes, even apartment complexes. One of the stores in particular catches his eye. It was one of the brighter flower shops he tended to see on his strolls, or at least used to be. The display window was cracked, the once bright paint on the walls now completely peeled off and faded. Inside, where there used to be bright arrangements of various flora, were now only dead and wilted plants. Their once lively petals now dry and black, hanging listless toward the ground. Zaiaku quickly continued forward with Itachi, not wanting to stop and see the sights.
It was when he saw the large gray apartment complex that made him stop in a dead halt. His home, where he had lived from the age of 18, until he turned 22. The dilapidated building was impaled by three spike of crystal, only these were not glittering. These were stained with blood, like much of the ground around them. They were each around 100 feet tall, and black as pitch.
Furious, he formed a small red orb of energy in his hand, then raised it into the air over his head. Once it grew to about 5 meters in diameter, he condensed it down until it was the size of his head. Then he hurled it towards one of the crystals at an intense speed. When the blast hit, it exploded in a massive nova of destruction, sending shards of black crystal everywhere.
Zaiaku turned and began to run towards Itachi, who still hadn't stopped. However, he didn't leave before taking a large amount of the black crystals with him, placing them in one of his pocklets. When he caught up to the stoic missing-ninja, he returned to his relaxed pace.
After a few minutes, they arrived in front of the Hokage's Tower, which didn't look as bad as the other buildings. Its bright white paint had only faded slightly, its many windows were still intact, and it's polished wooden double doors still remained in wonderous condition in comparison to the rest of the city. What wasn't as pleasant about the place was the huge amount of blood which had completely stained the ground red. The dead bodies of ninja and civilian alike littered the courtyard, their corpses still wide-eyed and looks of pain evident on their faces.
Rushing forward, Itachi and Zaiaku pushed open the doors and looked around the darkened insides of the building. He spotted a silhouette in the darkness, an unknown enemy perhaps? Unsheathing his Katana, Zaiaku began charging it with energy, igniting a wreath of black flames around the blade, licking at the very air around it. And, quite surprisingly, illuminating the area in an almost malevolent purple glow. The once almost greatly intriguing silhouette was now revealed as....nothing but a corpse.
Snarling, Zaiaku stalked out of the building, Itachi following shortly after. Zaiaku then turned around and began going through handseals. He finished after a few moments, and muttered out: "Katon: Shinhidora no Jutsu." With that, he summoned a towering serpent of flames. Its three heads swayed from side to side, the fires that made up its body licking at the air. Pointing at the building Zaiaku says: "Hidora Bakuhatsu." Three pairs of jaws opened at the same time, and each released a powerful blast of flame.
That day, Itachi and Zaiaku left the flaming ruins of Konoha behind them, and proceeded to Otogakure, hoping to find more than burning rubble.
